Pencil Persuasion Artist Reception, Tohono Chul Park

Last night was the Artists Reception for the CPSA DC 212 spring show here in Tucson. I must say Arizona has a lot of very fine CP artists and .. my fellow Southern Arizona CP artists are quite an impressive group. My Chaps & Chevy's received an Honorable Mention last night, and I'm very happy!

What a nice surprise it was when I looked in my envelope, to find a printed statement from the Jurors. Here is a small excerpt from the statement:
"Congratulations on being awarded Honorable Mention in the Pencil Persuasion Exhibition. We were awestruck by your beautiful composition (and the complexity of rendering such a diverse piece with the architectural form, human and rusty vehicle as your subject) as well as your masterful execution. (We also admired "The Boys of Summer) "
It was so nice of them to do this. We don't usually get this kind of input from a judge or jury. I think it's a wonderful addition to the award, maybe even better than the award itself.
Thank you Tohono Chul, Vicki Donkersley and Peggy Hazard!

Well done Toni, I keep meaning to ask you if you are still working on the full length portrait or is it finished? I dont remember seeing a post on the completed work. Grahame

Thank you Theresa!

Thanks Meisie lol.. hubbys are wonderful picture takers? ;)

Thanks Grahame! No, I didn't like her foot so I removed it..I'm currently finishing it up, along with a second one thats not posted here for my cpsa submissions. I'll most likely post the full one when she's complete and after the deadline. Not sure about the second one lol..... at first I'd say Photoshop is a wonderful tool. But it's gone beyond that so say artistic license artistic licence artistic license..if you get my drift lol.

(thats more technical terms for ya ;))

Congrats on your recognition! I just found your blog thru Grahame Butlers. I of course spotted the Tohono Chul immediately as I am in Tucson. I will stop in and see the CP works there, I'm quite sure they are amazing! Your work is amazing. I took several CP classes at the Desert Museum and I do not have the patience for the amount of time it takes to complete a CP drawing. So, much respect to you and your patience. I will keep checking back to see more of your work.

Hello Jennie! Thank you so much.

Ahhhhhhhh so you went all the way to England to find a fellow Tuconian? Small world isn't it? I hope you enjoy the CP show at Tohono Chul! I need to go back, I forgot to put my ribbon on my piece lol. I had no idea it was in the envelope, doh. The flowers are blooming and the birds are in their beautiful spring colors, great photo ops.

I checked your blog briefly last night, now off to look a little better before I hit the studio. Yay!

Toni, I finally made it to Tohono Chul Park. This piece is even more amazing up close! The subtle color changes in in her chaps and the hood of the truck kept me staring for quite some time. Absolutely beautiful!! What a great show, there are some amazing colored pencil pieces there. I'm glad I got to see it.

It makes me think about working in color again - but only for a minute : )
