4th of July Celebration in Heber-Overgaard AZ

The 4th of July was on a Friday this year, so the celebration was postponed until Saturday to give everyone time to trek up the mountain and spend a few days. We managed a 4 day stay..ahhhhhhh .. love it.

This is the first time we knew of the annual "Anvil Shoot" that starts off the day long celebration. I guess they have been doing it for 27+ years. I'm not sure of the story behind it, I will have to find out. We set our alarms for 4am to make it to the first shoot, then proceeded to follow the "shoot" around town, stopping in several locations, residential or commercial and lighting off another charge.

Returning to the school after waking up the neighborhoods, it was time to signal the start of Carissa's Run.

The parade is attended by a few people.. lol. Why all the covers? A couple of reasons, 1 the sun can be unbearably hot watching the parade so shade is helpful, 2 protection from the elements, such as the thunderstorms that are common this time of year. But mostly......

The shades are protection from this!!! AKA the "Splash Zone" for a reason lol. Only part of the parade route is in the zone, the busiest part of course!

I would like to say thank you for not spraying the lady with the camera!!!
Uhm.. this unsuspecting lady didn't have a camera lol.
Also... just because your in the fire truck doesn't mean your not going to get wet!
It's all in good fun, and no one was spared. Not the Hwy Patrol, the Sheriff nor the Park Rangers lol.

These guys stayed dry! Miss Navajo County, cute as she was, wasn't spared from the get -go. The look of shock on their faces makes me LOL.. we were at the beginning, I can only imagine how soaked they were after they made it to the other end. Towel anyone?

UH OH... we apparently looked to dry!

It was a fun parade, even just people watching.... next year more participation! The fireworks were wonderful but I left my camera at home this time. (these are last years pics) A wonderful show!

Thank you Heber-Overgaard!!!!
